Shell Point Retirement Community

The Village Church has an active and committed ministry to the approximately 2400 residents of Shell Point and the over 1000 employees that care for and serve them.

Spiritual Care Services and Healthcare Chaplaincy

The Village Church established a program to provide healthcare chaplaincy services in the assisted living and skilled nursing facilities of Shell Point Retirement Community in 2002. Chaplains help residents and families nourish their spirituality and draw on spiritual resources to meet the challenges confronting them in their daily lives. Chaplains provide a compassionate, pastoral presence to those who are suffering, and to those who serve as caregivers. The chaplains reach across various faith traditions to provide interfaith spiritual care. They respect personal religious views and help residents obtain comfort and support within a familiar context and will provide referral to local pastors and religious leaders as desired. The Director of Spiritual Services maintains an office at The Pavilion (skilled nursing facility) on The Island at Shell Point and oversees assistant chaplains at the assisted living facilities.
Counsel with a chaplain is a complimentary service for residents, caregivers, family members, and employees provided by The Village Church staff.
For more information, contact
Director of Spiritual Services (239-415-5714).

Employee Chaplaincy

The Employee Chaplain provides non-denominational spiritual care to employees of Shell Point Retirement
Community. Confidential, professional help is offered with family troubles, marriage issues, grief, financial problems, legal referrals, spiritual questions and other personal concerns. Faith development is provided through e-mail meditations, distribution of Christian literature and one on one discipleship. Members of the church support an Employee Benevolence Fund to help in times of crisis.  Counsel with the chaplain is a complimentary service for Shell Point employees provided by The Village Church staff.  For more information contact Scott Eding, Employee Chaplain.

Vespers Services

Vesper Services at the assisted living facilities and at the Larsen Pavilion (skilled nursing facility) are an extension of corporate worship for those unable to attend services at the church or who wish to gather with fellow residents in their own setting. Vesper (or late afternoon) services are informal gatherings and include music, prayer and a brief message, as well as a time of fellowship. The services are open to all.

Please see the church calendar or Events for upcoming community worship and prayer services.

Services and Devotionals on SPTV

Shell Point Television broadcasts the Sunday Morning Worship Service live on SPTV Channel 13, enabling residents to participate in the ministry even when they cannot attend the service. The sermons from both Sunday services are available online under Media.   The Sunday morning service is rebroadcast on SPTV Channel 12 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m.

Inspiring messages and devotionals are also presented usually on Fridays on SPTV Channel 11 and are available through Devotionals.  This is a great opportunity for a spiritual ‘pick-me-up’ or growth opportunity at your convenience.

Music Ministry

In addition to concerts open to the public, the ministry of music is shared throughout the year with residents at the assisted living facilities and Pavilion skilled nursing center. Hymn sings, casual performances and interactions with guest artists and seasonal caroling provide opportunities to engage in worship through song.

Grief Support

Grief over the loss of a loved one is a common issue in our community.  There is emotional pain as well as confusion because of misinformation or myths about grief.  GriefShare is a program designed to help us examine the physical, emotional and spiritual effects of grief as we walk together on the challenging road to healing.
GriefShare incorporates professionally produced videos which discuss different aspects of the grief process.  These videos are followed by group discussion and the opportunity to share your own personal story.   For information about the current or upcoming group please contact the church office (239-454-2147).
